Open Cosmos is a UK space company providing end-to-end satellite missions: design, manufacture, launch and in-orbit operations. It also supplies satellite data to government and commercial customers, and is building ConnectedCosmos, a Ka-band satellite telecommunications constellation. Claret Capital Partners has financed its growth since 2022.
SIX CONSECUTIVE YEARS OF PROFITABLE GROWTH
Open Cosmos has grown revenue 6x since Claret's initial investment in 2022. The company has had six consecutive years of profitable growth, and more than $370 million in customer contracts signed over the last three and a half years.
FROM 46 PEOPLE TO MORE THAN 275
Open Cosmos has four factories across Europe, capable of producing one satellite per day, with a presence in the UK, Spain, Portugal and Greece. At the time of Claret's initial investment, Open Cosmos had 46 FTEs. By August 2026 it had 279 FTEs, which means 233 jobs created since the investment. Its satellites have produced more than 245 TB of data, as of July 2026.
A FOUNDER-LED COMPANY
Rafel Jorda Siquier founded Open Cosmos in 2015 and remains its CEO. The company became profitable in 2020, before its Series B. On the Series B in September 2023 he said: "We are agents of change, harnessing the power of satellite data to drive meaningful impact on Earth."
CONNECTEDCOSMOS
ConnectedCosmos is Open Cosmos's Ka-band telecommunications constellation. The company launched its first two satellites in January 2026, within two months of securing access to Ka-band spectrum filings in Liechtenstein, thereby securing the constellation’s spectrum rights. That milestone unlocked the second tranche of Claret's facility, which was drawn in March 2026.
THE FINANCING
Claret made its first investment through the funds it manages in 2022 with €2.3 million and has invested €62.2 million across all rounds. In 2025 Claret provided a £50 million facility for growth capital, mainly capex. £25 million funds the core remote sensing business. The other £25 million funds ConnectedCosmos and was conditional on launching the first two satellites and securing spectrum rights.
THE SERIES B
On 11 September 2023 Open Cosmos announced a $50 million Series B. Investors included ETF Partners, Trill Impact, A&G, Accenture Ventures, the Banco Santander InnoEnergy Climate Tech Fund and Claret, with Taavet Hinrikus and Kheng Nam Lee also taking part. The money went into growth abroad and into expanding its satellite and data analysis offerings, which monitor climate change impacts and humanitarian disasters.
THE SERIES C
On 14 September 2026 Open Cosmos announced a €300 million Series C ($348 million), led by Lightrock, at a valuation above $1 billion. ETF Partners, Trill Impact, A&G Energy Transition Tech Fund and Santander InnoEnergy are among the notable co-investors in later rounds. The funds will go towards expanding satellite manufacturing, growing ConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation and DataCosmos, and scaling the engineering, manufacturing and software teams. Baroness Lloyd of Effra CBE, the UK Space Minister, called the round "a major vote of confidence in Open Cosmos and Britain's growing space sector".
WHAT'S NEXT
The priorities for the new capital are:
- Mass manufacturing of satellites.
- Growing ConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation and DataCosmos.
- Scaling engineering, manufacturing and software teams.
