m² of electrodes per year: planned capacity of the Saudi joint venture plant

Jolt Solutions makes the electrodes at the heart of electrolysis. Its process sprays a catalyst ink onto the electrode and heats it to 180°C to form a coating in one layer. The company says this cuts the use of scarce metals such as iridium, platinum and ruthenium, and lets electrodes run directly on intermittent renewable power.

FROM LAB TO FACTORY

Jolt spun out of the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research (ICIQ) in 2022. Within about three years it moved from lab development to full commercial production. It now runs its own factory and lab in Barcelona and has grown to more than 30 people. Its electrodes are already supplied to industrial customers across Europe.

THE INVESTMENT

Climentum Capital made its first investment in 2023 at Series A, with €2.4 million. It has invested €3.7 million in total across rounds, following on in the €6 million round of December 2025. Santander, CDP Venture Capital, Ship2BVentures and Axon are among the co-investors. Jolt has raised €13.5 million to date.

A CUSTOMER BASE THAT KEEPS WIDENING

Jolt signed to supply electrodes for Ansaldo Green Tech's AEM electrolyzers. It has since expanded beyond hydrogen into chlorine, water treatment and metals refining. Deployments are underway in Africa, Chile, Saudi Arabia and the United States.

“In just over three years, Jolt has moved from lab-scale development to full commercial production - something rarely seen in deep tech. Our electrodes are already in use by customers such as Ansaldo Energia and other industrial partners, helping them make their processes greener, more efficient, and less dependent on scarce raw materials.”

GOING GLOBAL

In September 2025, Jolt and the Green Electrodes Consortium for Industry formed Jolt Green Chemical Industries, a Saudi-Spanish joint venture. It will build an electrode plant at King Salman Energy Park in Saudi Arabia, with planned capacity above 750,000 m² of electrodes a year and operations due to start in Q2 2027. Jolt also won a Chilean government grant for a local production line, and CDP Venture Capital backs a coating line in Italy.

WHAT'S NEXT

The December 2025 round funds expansion of operations and entry into new markets. Jolt will grow its sales beyond hydrogen into:

-Water treatment and disinfection

-Chlor-alkali and chlorine production

-Metals refining and electrowinning
